In early summer 2022 I visited Härjedalen in central Sweden with a couple of nature photographers. Four-fifths of the province is situated above 500 meters of altitude, constituting a part of the Scandinavian mountain range. We spent most of the time at the highland heath “Flatruet”. Flatruet is easily accessible by Sweden’s highest road at 975 meters altitude. Flatruet offered good opportunities for photos of the most common highland birds, such as Long-tailed Skua, the Dotterel, Golden Plover and Lapland Longspur. In Funäsdalen we were lucky to run into a Hawk Owl family in our neighborhood, and a family of Short-eared Owls along river Tännån. The latter was captured both in daylight and in the golden sunset light. Below you will find pictures of birds, mammals, landscapes and flowers from Härjedalen.
